Establishing Your Home Practice

Note: Never wait for your yoga space to be perfect before you begin your home practice! Even if your space is not exactly how you would like it to be, it's better to just start rather than to wait for the perfect set up. Doing your yoga practice is far more valuable, even if the surroundings aren’t quite ideal!

Here are a few ideas to help you get started with your home practice to make it more practical and appealing:

☆Create a clean and uncluttered space with ideally with natural light and plenty of wall space so you can do legs up the wall and certain standing poses.

☆This can literally be anywhere in your home, inside or outside, small or large, just a space that’s large enough to hold you + your yoga mat.

☆A non-carpeted floor is ideal.

☆A simple container to store your yoga props such as blocks, blankets, straps, and bolsters. If purchasing props for the first time, check out our suggestions here.

☆A speaker system you can connect to your smart phone or computer to to the class library.

Eliminate distractions. Avoid having your phone nearby while practicing. If you have a separate room for yoga, keep the door closed while you practice to ensure full relaxation and concentration.

☆And most importantly, schedule time with yourself. In order to experience yoga's benefits and to see results, your practice must be consistent. Set aside a designated period of time to dedicate to practicing. This can be a few times a week or everyday, depending on your schedule and specific needs.
